Detailed Instructions On Using 60 Years of Back to Godhead
There are two ways to access the index and issue PDFs of the BTG collection. One way is from the DVD disc itself, the second way is from your computer's hard drive.
On a Windows PC, the following screen should appear when you insert side one:
This window allows you to either access the collection from the current disc, or install the contents of the disc to your hard drive.

Disadvantages |
|
From DVD |
Requires no hard drive space |
May run slow on your
computer |
|
From hard drive |
Runs very quickly |
Requires over 6 GB of hard drive space |
If you choose to install the collection to you hard drive, you will be notified if you do not have enough free disk space.
Once you install side one, an icon will appear on your desktop, start menu and quick launch bar. This icon allows you to access the installation you just performed. Please note that unless you have installed side two (as described below) you will only have access to side one from your hard drive.
You can choose to install only one side of the disc, but you must turn the disc over and install the other side if you wish to access the full collection from your hard drive. When you turn the disc over and reinsert it, the following screen should appear:
The above screen informs you that you have inserted side two and have already installed side one. From here you can finish installing the rest of the collection, or just access side two from the DVD disc itself. The installation process of side two is identical to the installation of side one.
Once you have installed side one and two the entire collection is available for access from your hard drive through the icon on your desktop, start menu or quick launch bar.

Whether you choose to access the collection from the disc or your hard-drive, navigating through the collection remains the same. The initial page displays a list of options that allow different ways to view the collection: | |
|
This option displays a graphical list of BTG covers by year, with links to the PDF, articles and full text. |
|
|
|
|
This option displays a list of the issues sortable by article titles and authors. |

Install Adobe Reader 6.0 (PC or Mac) to view the full issue PDFs. |
|
|
Adobe Reader is required to view the full issue PDFs. If it is not already installed on your computer, you may install from the DVD disc, your hard drive or from Adobe's website. Click here if you have installed Adobe Reader but are still unable to access the PDFs... |
|
Depending on how your particular computer is configured, the full issue PDF may or may not open inside of the browser window. Adobe provides information on how to make PDFs open in your browser. The default layout displays the magazine as it would appear if you had it sitting in front of you. This view is called Continous Facing and forces pages to be displayed side by side in a continuous vertical column. This ensures the proper display of two-page spreads. You can alter the layout using the buttons located in the lower-right corner of the window:
You can also alter the zoom level. You should adjust the level to the most comfortable setting for your eyes:

Searching Searching within the cover and article indexes is done with you browser's Find feature. This is usually invoked by clicking on Edit, then Find at the top of your browser's window.
Your browser's search feature will only search one page at a time. To do searching across multiple issues, desktop search software such a X1 does an excellent job. Otherwise, the latest version of the Bhaktivedanta VedaBase® contains the full text of issues up to mid-2003. |
