Between 1966 and 1984 ISKCON was a dynamic phenomenon, unparalleled in religous history. The BBT collection of transparencies and negatives is an extremely valuable asset for furture researchers of Vaisnavism and Hinduism. With approximately 30,000 images of Srila Prabhupada, 75,000 images of ISKCON activities between 1966 and 1985, the temples, Ratha-yatra festivals, farms, and the devotees themselves, the historic record is preserved. There are also tens of thousands of images of related material such as India's holy places.

The color images especially are the most "at risk" items in the entire archives because of the deterioration of the photographic dyes, etc. Digital scanning and cataloging of all these images as well as long-term storage for preservation is a priority for the Bhaktivedanta Archives.

Our current estimate is that this project will cost $200,000.
